Description
The 2009 (P) Presidential Dollar - James K. Polk, Position B is a dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 46.6 million examples, making this ranked 13th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The eleventh President (1845–1849), James K. Polk is regarded by historians as one of the most effective single-term presidents, having fulfilled all four of his major campaign promises including the acquisition of California and the Oregon Territory through the Mexican-American War and diplomatic negotiations. William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor were released. "In God We Trust" moved from the edge to the obverse, ending the "Godless Dollar" controversy. Production remained high for circulation. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $5 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #409713.
