Description

A dollar from the Denver Mint, the 2009 (D) Presidential Dollar - John Tyler, Position B belongs to the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's figure of 43.5 million covers every 2009-D John Tyler dollar, whichever way the edge lettering ran; how many are Position B coins is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The tenth President (1841–1845), John Tyler was the first vice president to assume the presidency upon the death of a sitting president, establishing the critical precedent of full presidential succession. He oversaw the annexation of Texas in the final days of his term. William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor were released. "In God We Trust" moved from the edge to the obverse, ending the "Godless Dollar" controversy. Production remained high for circulation. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407386.
