The 2008 Presidential Dollar - James Monroe, Missing Edge Lettering is part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The obverse features a portrait of James Monroe, 5th President (1817-1825) and author of the Monroe Doctrine, while the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty, inscribed with the dollar sign ($) to represent commerce and the nation's global presence. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #408481. The Presidential Dollar Program (2007-2016, continuing with deceased presidents) issued dollar coins honoring each president in chronological order. The 2007 Washington dollar "Godless Dollar" error (missing edge inscription) attracted widespread media attention. Position A and Position B edge lettering varieties are collected.
