Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 2008 (D) Presidential Dollar - Andrew Jackson, Position B is part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's 61.1 million total for the 2008 (D) Andrew Jackson dollar counts both edge orientations combined, so the number with the Position B edge is unknown. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The seventh President (1829–1837), Andrew Jackson was a populist war hero celebrated for his victory at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Ironically, Jackson was a fierce opponent of paper currency and central banking, yet his image appeared on the $20 bill for decades. The second year honored Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Jackson, and Van Buren. Mounting complaints about edge lettering legibility led Congress to move "In God We Trust" to the obverse starting in 2009. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #394857.
