2008 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2008-P $1 JQA WDDO-002, this doubled die obverse variety was struck on a 2008-P Presidential dollar honoring John Quincy Adams, specifically from the Position B die orientation. Presidential dollars were produced in a manganese-brass clad composition weighing 8.1 grams with a 26.5 mm diameter and edge lettering containing the date, mintmark, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Presidential dollar series, authorized by the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005, honored American presidents in order of service beginning with George Washington in 2007. John Quincy Adams, the sixth President, served from 1825 to 1829 and was the son of founding father and second President John Adams. The Position B designation indicates the orientation of the edge lettering relative to the obverse, with Position A and Position B representing the two possible orientations depending on which side of the coin faced up when the edge lettering was applied.
