Description

The 2008 (P) Presidential Dollar - James Monroe, Doubled Edge Lettering Overlap is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. Total mintage reached 64.3 million. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year, while the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. Designed by Joseph Menna/Don Everhart. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #395634. The Presidential Dollar Program (2007-2016, continuing with deceased presidents) issued dollar coins honoring each president in chronological order. The 2007 Washington dollar "Godless Dollar" error (missing edge inscription) attracted widespread media attention. Position A and Position B edge lettering varieties are collected.
