2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

From the final year of Frank Gasparro's fifty-year Memorial reverse, this 2008-P Lincoln Cent exhibits a doubled die reverse produced by hub misalignment during die preparation. Die markers on the obverse include a die crack running NE through the upper back of the head to W of WE and a die crack running NNW from the eyebrow to the top of the head. On the reverse, a small die gouge appears under the top right side of C in CENT, a die crack runs down C of CENT, short die cracks run NE from the tops of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Memorial columns, a short die scratch runs SW from the bottom left of the 1st U in UNUM, and a small die gouge sits left of the bottom of N in UNUM. The column-top cracks affecting three consecutive columns document a systematic structural failure pattern. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm at the Philadelphia Mint.

A small die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the N in UNUM.
