About This Coin
The 2007 Sacagawea Dollar is a United States dollar from the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back, while the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. Designed by Glenna Goodacre/Thomas D. Rogers Sr.. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. The Sacagawea Dollar (2000-2008) honored the Shoshone woman who guided the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Beginning in 2009, the reverse was redesigned annually to honor different Native American contributions, and the series was renamed the Native American Dollar. The distinctive golden color comes from a manganese brass alloy. The 2000-P "Cheerios Dollar" variety (different tail feather detail) is a valuable modern rarity. The Glenna Goodacre Presentation Dollars (in 22-karat gold finish) are extremely rare.
