2007 UFO Variety WUFO-001

Description

Moving CW on Miss Liberty’s tiara the third ray is long enough to touch Miss Liberty’s right arm. On the normal reverse design the third ray is much shorter leaving a significant gap between the tip of the ray and the right arm. Die Markers: Obverse: None significant. Reverse: None significant.

• Cherrypickers: FS-C1-2007P-GW-901, CONECA: RDV-001 Comments: It has been suggested that the extra length of the third ray is from a die gouge. Close examination of the elongated third ray does not show any gouging to extend the ray. I would have to strongly disagree with the die gouge theory. Was it a deliberate manipulation of the design? We probably will never know, but it certainly is an interesting variety. The above photo shows the "Elongated Third Ray".
