Description

Cross-referenced by the Wexler Team as 2007 1c WDDR-003 and by Coppercoins as 2007P-1DR-001, this doubled die reverse on the 2007 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent concentrates its doubling on the central left side of the 7th Memorial column to the right of the statue, where the Lincoln figure's legs provide a narrow detection surface for misaligned hub impressions. The doubling is distinct enough to produce an extra knee visible between the statue's legs — a dramatic diagnostic marker that makes this variety more visually striking than many subtle DDRs. Die markers on the obverse include a small die gouge above the left side of the T in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a small die gouge appears to the left of the upper I in AMERICA, short die scratches run from southwest to northeast above ATE in STATES, and a die scratch runs from northwest to southeast to the left of the upper T in CENT. These multiple attribution markers across both sides provide reliable confirmation points for authenticating the variety. The 2007 cent was struck in copper-plated zinc composition (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper plating) weighing 2.5 grams at 19 mm diameter. Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse captures the Lincoln statue within an architectural interior, and the columnar structure of the building creates repeating vertical elements highly sensitive to lateral hub displacement.
