Description

The 2007 (D) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - Thomas Jefferson, Position B is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 895,628 examples, making this ranked 5th of 41 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The third President (1801–1809) and principal author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the nation through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. A polymath and founder of the University of Virginia, Jefferson also appears on the nickel, making this one of multiple U.S. coin appearances. Inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar Program, honoring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. The "Godless Dollar" error β€” coins struck without the edge-incused motto IN GOD WE TRUST β€” generated national headlines and collector frenzy. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $75 SP69 05-06-2019 eBay. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #390557.
