2006 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-032 / DDO-003

Description

DDO-003, which Wexler numbers WDDO-032, is a doubled die obverse on the 2006 Lincoln Memorial cent with a strong spread to the north across the obverse, including LIBERTY, the date, IN GOD WE TRUST and the V.D.B. initials. Both catalogs give it the Cherrypickers number FS-102, which Wexler writes FS-01-2006-102. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties lists the spread north on LIBERTY, the date, IN GOD WE TRUST, the upper hair details and the bowtie. On the obverse a long die crack runs SW to NE through the hair on the upper back of the head, with a small die chip in the hair near its upper end; another die chip sits inside GOD's G at its base; from the middle left of the date's 2 a die scratch heads NW; and two parallel scratches extend WNW off the lower back of the head. On the reverse several die scratches run SW to NE in the lower fourth bay, and a short die crack heads NE off the top of the third column. Robert Tingle submitted the coin. CONECA lists the die as 3-O-IV+VIII and Crawford as CDDO-028; its Coppercoins number is 2006P-1DO-017. VarietyVista also credits Robert Tingle. Under marker codes UVC-2502 and DMR-004, both sides are early in stage A. In stage B, early-middle, a light die crack and a small die chip show in the hair and a small die chip lies in the lower G of GOD, with the reverse also early-middle. Stage C, a late die state, is unconfirmed.
