2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-049

Description

The most complete doubled column in this entire batch, the 2005 DDR-049 carries VarietyVista designations UVC-3231 / DMR-051 and displays medium spread to the east, producing an extra column #6 spanning the full height — from top to bottom — of the seated Lincoln statue within the Memorial. Full-column doubling is uncommon among Memorial cent DDRs, where most varieties show the ghost column over only a partial range such as elbow-to-shin or hand-to-ankle. Here, the entire length of column #6 is doubled, indicating that the eastward hub misalignment was sufficient and uniform enough to register a continuous secondary image across every portion of the column. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the unbroken ghost column should be traceable from the column's capital at the ceiling to its base at the floor of the Memorial interior. This complete coverage makes DDR-049 the easiest column-doubling variety to identify for the 2005 date, as collectors need not isolate a specific segment of the column — the secondary line parallels the original along its entirety.
