2005 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - SKH-1c-2005-01 Spiked Head

Cataloged on October 4, 2016, by Cuds on Coins, SKH-1c-2005-01 is the first spiked head listed for the 2005 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent. A spiked head is a die crack or break at the top of Lincoln's head: planchet metal fills the crack during striking and stands up from the portrait as a raised spike. The 2005-P cent was produced during the final years of the Memorial reverse, with only three more years of production remaining before the 2009 bicentennial designs and the 2010 Shield reverse transition. The 2005-P was also notable for being produced alongside the 2005 Satin Finish coins included in Mint Sets, though spiked heads are documented on business strike coins from circulation rather than on specially packaged collectible issues.
