Description

Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-3141 and DMR-026, this 2005 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-024 exhibits medium spread directed west, visible as an extra column at position number 7 extending from the knee to the pedestal of the seated Lincoln statue within the Memorial. The westward spread indicates the secondary hub impression shifted to the left relative to the primary, creating the doubled column image on the left side of the original column position — a common doubling manifestation within the Memorial's columned interior where the architectural elements' vertical linearity amplifies even moderate hub displacement into clearly recognizable extra-column features. Four documented die stages track this die pair's progressive deterioration: Stage A shows both the reverse and obverse in early die state (EDS); Stage B advances to early-mid die state (EMDS) on the reverse, with a die crack and chips developing in the back of Lincoln's hair on the obverse; Stages C (MDS) and D (LDS) remain unconfirmed. The hair crack development at Stage B documents the onset of structural die failure in a high-detail area where the deep recesses required to produce Lincoln's hair create stress concentrations.
