2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-046

Description

Forty-six doubled die reverses documented for the 2005 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent is an extraordinary count, and DDR-046 contributes a medium westward spread that produces an extra seventh column from the knee area to the pedestal. Cataloged as UVC-3197 / DMR-048, this variety has been tracked through four die stages including an Extremely Early Die State (EMDS) — a designation indicating the earliest known impressions from the die, before any deterioration occurred. The westward displacement contrasts with the eastward extra column seen on other Memorial Cent DDRs, demonstrating that hub doubling can shift in any direction depending on die alignment during manufacturing. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at Philadelphia, the 2005 cent was part of the final years of Gasparro's Memorial reverse before its 2008 replacement. Attributed by VarietyVista.
