2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-042

Description

Recorded by VarietyVista under UVC-3193 / DMR-044, the 2005 DDR-042 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent features medium spread to the west, producing an extra column #7 from the hand to the shin. This variety's vertical extent falls between the face-to-knee range of DDR-037 and a full hand-to-foot span, covering the column from Lincoln's outstretched hand down to the shin area without reaching the base. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the ghost column image is expected to be well-defined and consistently spaced from the primary column throughout the doubled zone. Hand-to-shin doubling on column #7 encompasses approximately two-thirds of the statue's height, starting lower than face-level varieties but extending further down the column than knee-terminated types. For the 2005 Philadelphia cent, the cluster of DDR varieties on column #7 at varying extents — face-to-knee, hand-to-shin, and others — illustrates how multiple working dies can receive similar but not identical hub impressions during high-volume production, each registering the displacement across slightly different portions of the design.
