2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-034

Description

Visible as an extra column line along the East side of the Lincoln Memorial, DDR-034 displays medium spread on column #6 — the column nearest Lincoln's hand extending down to the pedestal. On the Memorial reverse, column #6 sits in the East (right) portion of the facade, and the doubling here produces a ghost column that parallels the original from the hand level down to its base. Medium spread indicates the secondary image is clearly separated from the primary under moderate magnification, making this a relatively accessible variety for collectors examining 2005 Philadelphia cents. Die stage progression spans three states: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). The confirmed EDS pairing at Stage A offers collectors the best chance of finding a crisp secondary column line before die wear begins to soften fine details. Among the extensive catalog of 2005 DDRs, this variety is distinguished by its East-side column spread, contrasting with the numerous West-side column #7 varieties documented for this date.
