2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-030
Error
Description
From VarietyVista, this 2005 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-030 displays medium spread to the west appearing as an extra column number seven from the knee to the pedestal, with an additional leg and foot visible between the existing legs and slightly rotated clockwise. Extra-column varieties are among the most visually compelling Memorial cent doubled die reverses, as the duplicated element creates an immediately recognizable anomaly. Tracked under codes UVC-3181 and DMR-032 with three die stages. Stage A shows both sides in early die state. Stage B at mid-die-state is currently unconfirmed, as is Stage C at late die state. Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse was in its forty-sixth year of production, and hundreds of distinct doubled die reverses had been documented spanning from 1959 forward. The clockwise rotation of the extra column elements indicates the hub shifted both laterally and rotationally between impressions. Lincoln Memorial Cent production at Philadelphia in 2005 was among the last high-volume years before the series concluded with the 2008 regular issue.
