2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-023
Error
Description
Visible as an extra knee on the Lincoln statue inside the Memorial, DDR-023 on the 2005-P Lincoln Memorial Cent presents medium spread northward on the seated figure's left knee area. The Lincoln Memorial reverse — Frank Gasparro's design in continuous use from 1959 through 2008 — includes a tiny seated Lincoln statue visible between the central columns, and doubling on the statue's anatomy produces the illusion of an additional knee joint where the displaced secondary impression creates a second contour line above the primary. Cataloged as UVC-3125 with DMR-025, the variety has been documented at Stage A in early die state on both the obverse and reverse, with mid-die and late die states unconfirmed. Statue-detail doubling on the Memorial Cent demands higher magnification than lettering-based varieties, as the Lincoln figure occupies only a small portion of the reverse design — but the "extra knee" effect, once located, is distinctive and memorable. The 2005-P Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck at Philadelphia in copper-plated zinc during the penultimate era of the Memorial reverse before the 2009 bicentennial redesign. Attributed by VarietyVista.
