2004 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-013

Description

Targeting a specific architectural element of the Lincoln Memorial, this 2004 DDR-013 Lincoln Cent shows medium spread in a counterclockwise direction on lower column number 6, measured from the hand to the foot of the column. The twelve columns of the Memorial reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, serve as precise reference points for locating and measuring hub doubling. Die markers include UVC-2885 and DMR-016. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state; Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed); and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The confirmed early die state at Stage A provides the clearest view of the counterclockwise spread before die wear can obscure the displacement. Column-specific doubling on Memorial Cents is a well-studied phenomenon, as the vertical lines of the columns act as natural gauges for detecting even small amounts of rotational hub movement during the die manufacturing process.
