2001 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-029

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-3274 / DMR-031, the 2001 DDR-029 Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits medium spread to the west, producing an extra column #7 from the elbow to the shin of the seated Lincoln statue. Column #7, the first column right of the central figure, is the primary target for westward hub doubling on Memorial reverses, and the elbow-to-shin extent covers the middle portion of the statue — beginning where the arm meets the torso and terminating at the lower leg. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the secondary column image should appear cleanly defined without the softening that accumulates through extended press runs. The elbow-to-shin range distinguishes DDR-029 from other 2001 westward varieties that span hand-to-ankle or hand-to-foot, as the doubling here skips both the uppermost and lowest portions of the column. Philadelphia's 2001 cent production exceeded 4.9 billion pieces, yet each DDR originates from a single working die, making individual varieties scarce relative to the vast total output.
