Description

Fifteenth in the VarietyVista DDR sequence for 2001 Lincoln Memorial Cents, DDR-015 exhibits a medium spread east manifesting as an extra column number 6 from shoulder to shin — a spread range that covers the upper and middle portion of the sixth column. Die markers UVC-3260 and DMR-017 identify this specific die. Die state documentation shows Stage A at Early Die State as unconfirmed, Stage B with both reverse and obverse at Mid Die State, and Stage C at Late Die State unconfirmed — notably, the confirmed die state observation is at MDS rather than the more commonly documented EDS, suggesting the known specimens were struck from a moderately worn die. The eastward spread on column 6, running from shoulder to shin, places the doubled image adjacent to the left side of the seated Lincoln statue, where it appears as a secondary column line displaced toward the eastern (left) edge of the design. The shoulder-to-shin range spans most of the statue's height at this position, indicating the hub displacement was sufficient to produce visible doubling across a substantial vertical extent. The 2001 Lincoln Memorial Cent was produced during the final decade of Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse, and the continued documentation of new DDR varieties for dates this late in the series demonstrates that die variety research remains productive even on recent, high-mintage issues.
