Description

Twelfth in the documented sequence of doubled die reverses for the 2001 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, this variety is cataloged under VarietyVista identifiers UVC-3031 and DMR-014. The doubling presents as a medium-strength spread rotated counterclockwise, visible as doubled column seven bars extending toward the hand and toward the knee of the Lincoln statue within the Memorial. Counterclockwise rotation is the mirror image of the clockwise shift seen on other Memorial reverse DDRs, and it indicates the hub pivoted in the opposite direction between impressions during die manufacture. The medium-strength classification places this variety in the middle range of visibility — stronger than the light spread varieties that require careful magnification, but not reaching the dramatic separation seen on the strongest DDRs. Column bars on the Memorial reverse are particularly useful diagnostic features because their thin horizontal elements amplify even modest displacement into a clearly doubled image. DDR-012 at the twelfth position for a single date demonstrates the systematic depth of VarietyVista's cataloging across the Memorial Cent series from the early 2000s.
