2001 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-011
Error
Description
Cataloged eleventh among the doubled die reverses for the 2001 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-011 presents medium spread in the West direction manifesting as double column #7 bars — the horizontal crossbars connecting the westernmost column to the Memorial structure — with doubling extending from knee level down to the pedestal. The "double bars" description distinguishes this from simple column shaft doublings: the secondary image reproduces both the column shaft and its connecting horizontal elements, creating a more complex doubled feature in the lower facade. Medium spread means the separation is readily visible under standard magnification. The knee-to-pedestal extent concentrates the doubling on the bottom section, including the base where the column meets its pedestal. Three die stages document the die through its service life: Stage A places both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, while Stage B and Stage C remain unconfirmed at Mid and Late Die State. The 2001 Philadelphia cent was struck in copper-plated zinc, and DDR-011's bar doubling offers a distinctive diagnostic within the crowded 2001 column variety catalog.
