2000 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

Identified by the Wexler Team, the 2000 Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-005 features doubling visible between the left side of the chair and the statue's right leg on the reverse. The obverse carries an array of useful die markers: a small die gouge sits near the rim south of the right side of the last 0 in the date, while vertical die clash marks appear behind Lincoln's neck and along the angle of the jaw beneath the beard. A horizontal die clash mark registers inside the ear, and three separate die gouges cluster around the word GOD — one below and right of the G, one below and right of the D, and one above and left of the V in VDB. The reverse provides additional confirmation through a die gouge above F in the designer's initials FG, plus two linear die gouges positioned below and to the right of the right base tip. These clash marks indicate the dies came together without a planchet at least once during production, leaving telltale impressions of each die's design on the opposing surface. The abundance of die markers makes this variety straightforward to authenticate once collectors know what to look for.
