2000 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

This 2000 Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die reverse, cataloged as WDDR-004, exhibits doubling on the right side of the Lincoln statue's right knee within the Memorial design on the reverse. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint on a copper-plated zinc planchet weighing 2.5 grams with a 19 mm diameter, this variety belongs to the Lincoln Memorial Cents 1959-2008 series. The obverse carries several useful die markers for authentication: a die gouge below the right side of the B in LIBERTY, and diagonal die scratches running through the letters UST in TRUST. On the reverse, several small die gouges can be found below the left side of the Memorial base to the left of the O in ONE. The doubling on the statue's knee area is characteristic of Class VIII (tilted hub) doubling, where the working hub is slightly tilted during the hubbing process, producing displacement concentrated in specific areas of the design.
