2000 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-018
Error
Description
Eighteenth in the 2000 Lincoln Memorial cent DDR census, DDR-018 displays medium westward spread producing an extra column number 7 visible from the elbow to the shin of the seated Lincoln figure. VarietyVista assigned identifiers UVC-3238 and DMR-020, with a particularly interesting Stage A notation: the reverse is at early die state while the obverse has already progressed to mid die state, indicating the reverse die was fresher than its obverse partner in this die marriage — a common occurrence when the Mint replaced individual dies at different rates as they wore during production. Stage B at mid die state and Stage C at late die state remain unconfirmed. The split die state notation (reverse EDS, obverse MDS) for Stage A provides collectors with a refined expectation for specimen appearance: the reverse should show sharp, unworn doubling detail while the obverse may exhibit slight softening from extended use. The RDV-007 reverse design variant connects DDR-018 to the phantom column family that defines the 1999-2000 Lincoln Memorial DDR landscape. Philadelphia's approximately 5.50 billion cent output in 2000 drove die consumption rates that produced at least eighteen independent reverse hub doubling events cataloged by VarietyVista, reflecting the statistical inevitability of hub misalignment across such enormous die inventories. The elbow-to-shin range of the extra column covers a substantial vertical span of Frank Gasparro's memorial interior, overlapping with other DDRs that document different segments of the ghost seventh column. The high UVC and DMR numbers (3238 and 020 respectively) position DDR-018 late in both the universal variety catalog and the die marriage registry for this date.
