Description

Documented by VarietyVista as UVC-3106 with DMR-013, this Lincoln Memorial Cent from the year 2000 displays a strong doubled die reverse with the spread rotated counterclockwise, manifesting as an extra lower left leg beneath the Lincoln statue's left leg, along with two very short column bars emerging from column number 7 below the statue's hand. The reverse die variety is paired with RDV-007. Three documented stages track the die's working life: Stage A shows early die state with a light horizontal die scratch above E PLUR of PLURIBUS and the obverse at early-to-mid die state; Stage B reaches mid-die state (unconfirmed); and Stage C represents late die state (also unconfirmed). The year 2000 Philadelphia Mint cent production was enormous, with over 5.5 billion struck, requiring hundreds of die pairs and increasing the statistical odds of hubbing anomalies. Doubled dies showing rotated spread — where the second hub impression was both offset and rotated relative to the first — create particularly dramatic visual effects on struck coins, because the doubling direction varies across different areas of the design. The extra leg beneath the statue of Lincoln is among the most visually striking forms of Memorial cent doubling, making DDR-011 a variety that can be identified even at modest magnification.
