2000 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, the 2000 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-007 exhibits a light spread to the east, manifesting as an extra column in the area of column number 6 between the knee and shin of the seated Lincoln statue within the Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial reverse — designed by Frank Gasparro — depicts the Memorial facade with its twelve columns and a tiny seated Lincoln visible between them. When hub doubling displaces the columnar architecture, ghost columns appear alongside the originals, and DDR-007's eastward spread creates this effect at column 6 in the knee-to-shin zone. Die markers UVC-2976 and DMR-009 identify the working die, which carries the reverse die variety designation RDV-007. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B tentatively in mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C tentatively in late die state (unconfirmed). This Philadelphia Mint regular strike was struck in copper-plated zinc. Compare with the 2000 DDR-009, which shows westward spread at the adjacent column 7 — opposite direction, neighboring column, same reverse die variety.
