2000 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-005
Error
Description
Occupying a mid-height zone on the Lincoln Memorial's colonnade, the 2000 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-005 exhibits a medium westward spread creating a ghost column at position number 7 between the seated Lincoln statue's elbow and shin. This elbow-to-shin zone places the strongest doubling in the middle vertical band of the column — above the pedestal region targeted by several companion varieties and below the hand level where others manifest. Die markers UVC-2967 and DMR-007 identify this working die, which carries the RDV-007 reverse die variety designation shared by all column #7 westward-spread DDRs in the late Memorial cent series. The die stage documentation offers an unusual asymmetry: Stage A records the reverse in early die state while the obverse is in early-to-mid die state (EMDS), suggesting the obverse die had already seen more production than the reverse when the earliest known specimens were struck. Stage B is tentatively mid-die state (unconfirmed) and Stage C tentatively late die state (unconfirmed). Cataloged by VarietyVista, this Philadelphia Mint regular strike was produced in copper-plated zinc. Examine column 7 between the elbow and shin for the medium westward ghost column, and note the obverse EMDS condition on early-state specimens as an additional die identification feature.
