2000-D Atypical Die Clash ADC-10C-2000D-01

Documented by MadDieClashes, this 2000-D Roosevelt Dime displays a strong atypical die clash affecting both sides of the coin. On the obverse, parts of E PL from E PLURIBUS UNUM are visible in front of and across Roosevelt's face — transferred from the reverse die during a clashing event where the dies struck each other without a planchet between them. Part of the torch design appears below Roosevelt's chin, and the negative space surrounding the right leaf is visible near his ear. The reverse also carries significant clash marks. Atypical die clashes differ from normal clashes in their mechanism: while a standard clash simply transfers incuse design elements, atypical clashes involve the dies shifting or tilting during the impact, producing clash marks in unexpected locations. The Roosevelt Dime, designed by John R. Sinnock and struck since 1946, features a relatively open obverse field that readily reveals clash marks. Denver's 2000 dime production was large, yet atypical clashes remain uncommon finds, making documented examples valuable reference specimens for die clash researchers.
