Description
The 1999 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-2185, Martha Washington is the proof form of the 1999 Martha Washington trial on a manganese brass planchet. In 1999 the Mint used its second set of Martha Washington dies to test the golden manganese brass planchets later used for the Sacagawea dollar, and gave the dies to outside contractors such as IDX Inc., PMX Industries, Schuler AG and Olin Brass Corporation (USPatterns.com). USPatterns.com counted at least half a dozen in proof as of 2017, and Coin World reported Mint e-mails on anti-tarnish tests of January 8, 2000, that included proof-quality strikes from these dies. PCGS lists it as (1999) $1 J-2185 Martha Washington, CAM (PCGS #511834).
