1999-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-023
Error
Description
Produced at the Denver Mint in the final year of the millennium, this 1999-D Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-023 shows a bar extending from the hand to the upper base to the right of the statue on the seventh column. The seventh column adjacent to the seated Lincoln figure is among the most productive areas for doubled die discoveries on Memorial cents, where even minor hub shifts produce visible extra thickness. Obverse die markers include a die chip between the upper D of GOD and the W of WE, a die chip above the E in LIBERTY, and a die chip centered above the RT in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a die chip appears to the left of the upper first memorial column. The multiple die chips on the obverse suggest this working die was experiencing progressive deterioration, and their positions provide strong diagnostic value. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 1999-D 1c WDDR-023. Denver Mint Lincoln cents from 1999 were produced in enormous quantities, requiring many working dies and providing ample opportunity for hubbing anomalies.
