1999-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009
Error
Description
Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1999-D 1c WDDR-009, this ninth doubled die reverse for the 1999 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent manifests as a bar extended from below the hand to the top of the base to the left of the statue on the sixth column. This type of doubling produces what appears to be an extra vertical element within the Lincoln Memorial architecture, a characteristic that experienced cherry-pickers can spot with a 10x loupe. Reverse die markers include a die chip to the left of the N of ONE and another die chip within the lower N of CENT, along with two die chips to the right of the last memorial column — features that serve as secondary confirmation points beyond the primary doubling. No significant obverse die markers have been noted. The 1999-D was produced during the Modern Clad Era at the Denver Mint, where high-volume cent production consumed numerous die pairs and generated a steady stream of doubled die varieties. Nine documented WDDRs for the 1999-D date alone underscores the intensity of Lincoln Memorial Cent variety research, which has produced one of the most extensively cataloged die variety populations in all of numismatics.
