1999-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001
Error
Description
Producing a ghost column along the East side of the Memorial facade, the 1999-D Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-001 displays medium spread clockwise as an extra column #6 — the sixth column from the left — with the secondary image connecting to Lincoln's hand within the Memorial. On the Lincoln Memorial reverse, column #6 falls on the East (right) side of the building, and East-spread doubling pushes the secondary column line to the right of the primary. The connection to Lincoln's hand means the doubled column extends from approximately hand height down through the column shaft, providing a substantial area of visible doubling. Die markers UVC-2853 and DMR-002 serve as the cataloging references for attribution. Three die stages document the die's progression through its service life, allowing collectors to observe how the doubled column image evolved as the die accumulated wear. The Denver Mint struck over 6.3 billion Lincoln cents in 1999, an enormous output that consumed vast quantities of working dies. DDR-001 stands as the primary doubled die reverse variety for this high-mintage Denver date, identifiable by its distinctive East-side column spread.
