1998 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-041

Description

On the 1998 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, WDDR-041 presents doubling as bars extending from the statue within the Memorial colonnade: one bar from the middle of the leg to the upper foot to the left of the statue on the sixth column, and another bar from the upper leg to the upper foot to the right of the statue on the seventh column. These bar-shaped doubling artifacts flanking the Lincoln statue between columns 6 and 7 create a symmetrical diagnostic pattern centered on the Memorial's focal point. No obverse die markers were noted. Reverse die markers include a die chip below the crossbar of the N of ONE, a die chip between the upper A and M of AMERICA, and a die chip centrally within the C of AMERICA. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1998 1¢ WDDR-041, the three reverse die chips in the denomination and country legend provide supplementary confirmation points for attribution beyond the primary doubling on the statue area.
