Description

Carrying the Wexler attribution number WDDR-032, this 1998 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent doubled die reverse is part of what became one of the most intensively catalogued doubled die years in the series' history. The Wexler Team documented the variety as Wexler Variety ID 1998 1¢ WDDR-032. Authentication draws on the three hub markers diagnostic for 1998 reverse dies: the hub marker positioned above the N in UNUM is visible, the hub markers at the tops of Memorial bays 7 and 8 are confirmed present, and the roof hub markers appear on this die. These shared features reflect the common working hub ancestry of the many 1998 dies; the doubling signature unique to WDDR-032 provides the key distinguishing data for attribution. The copper-plated zinc cents of this year were struck at Philadelphia and circulated widely. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID: 1998 1¢ WDDR-032.
