1998 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011

Description

Among the 1998 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent doubled die reverse varieties, WDDR-011 occupies a distinct position: it is the only variety in this closely related group for which the Memorial bay and roof hub markers achieve any level of visibility. Specifically, the hub markers at the top of Memorial bays 7 and 8 are visible, and the roof hub markers are faintly visible — in contrast to WDDR-007, WDDR-010, WDDR-029, WDDR-054, WDDR-068, WDDR-074, WDDR-076, and WDDR-077, on all of which those same markers are recorded as not visible. The hub marker above the N in UNUM remains not visible on WDDR-011 as on the others. This differential hub marker visibility makes WDDR-011 the most readily separable variety within the 1998-P DDR group, as the appearance of bay 7 and 8 markers provides a positive identification criterion rather than relying solely on absence-of-markers logic. Cataloged in the Wexler files as 1998 1 cent WDDR-011, the variety was struck on the copper-plated zinc planchet standard for Lincoln cents post-1982. No additional cross-references beyond the Wexler file number are known.
