Description

The 1998 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent is home to one of the deepest catalogs of doubled die reverse varieties in U.S. coinage, and WDDR-006 is among the foundational entries documented by the Wexler Team. Catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 1998 1¢ WDDR-006, this die variety is authenticated in part through the three hub markers that are diagnostic for the 1998 reverse hub family: the hub marker above the N in UNUM is visible, the hub markers at the tops of Memorial bays 7 and 8 can be confirmed, and the roof hub markers are present. These markers, shared across the many 1998 DDR dies, provide a reliable baseline for attribution while the specific doubling characteristics of each die — spread direction, strength, and affected design elements — distinguish one WDDR number from another. The cent was produced in copper-plated zinc at Philadelphia. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID: 1998 1¢ WDDR-006.
