1998 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-005

Description

Cataloged as UVC-3101, DMR-007, and bearing the RDV-007 reverse die variety designation, the 1998 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-005 displays a medium spread west that manifests as an extra column at position 7, running from the statue's hand to its shin. Four die stages trace the die's production life. Stage A shows a light die scratch through upper bays 2, 3, and 4 at early die state, with the obverse also at EDS. Stage B develops a die crack from the right cornice to the rim between the R and I of AMERICA at early-to-mid die state, with the obverse at EMDS. Stages C and D represent mid and late die states, both currently unconfirmed. The light horizontal die scratch through bays 2, 3, and 4 serves as the most reliable early-stage diagnostic, persisting across die states while later cracks accumulate. The extra column effect produced by the westward spread creates a visually striking doubled impression that is among the more dramatic Memorial Cent DDR varieties of the late 1990s.
