1993 Atypical Die Clash ADC-1C-1993-02

ADC-1c-1993-02 At least two die clashes have occurred on this 1993P Lincoln cent with a rather large die break. Whether the clash and the die break happened in conjunction with each other is speculative. However, the possibilities do exist that both anomalies may have happened in the same time period. There is an offset of positioning between the first and second clash as noted by the overlays taken of this coin. The coin is from the collection of Michael Evanchik and is grade at MS65 by NGC. Once again, we can see the two sets of clash marks near the die break. If the scrape marks are an indication of the planchet movement between strikes, it could be possible that both clashing of the dies happened after the die break. This is a close up of the clash marks left by the back of Lincoln’s head. Notice the two sets of clash marks indicated by the red and white arrows. If you look back at the full overlays above, the white arrows show the positioning of the clash that occurred in the first overlay, while the red arrows show the clash that occurred in the second picture, The first clashing of the dies left clash marks associated with the NE of ONE above Lincoln’s head.
