1990 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-012
ErrorDescription
Completing the twelve-entry Wexler catalog of doubled die reverses for the 1990 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, WDDR-012 exhibits tilted doubling visible on the right side of the sixth Memorial column to the left of the statue's knees. This localized doubling, confined to a specific column adjacent to the seated Lincoln statue, indicates a hub misalignment that produced its strongest visible effect in the central portion of the Memorial facade where the column's vertical line intersects with the statue's horizontal knee line — a junction of design elements that magnifies the visual impact of even minor displacement. Reverse die markers confirm the attribution: a die crack running north-northeast from the lower right of the T in UNITED to the rim, north-south die scratches visible throughout the reverse, and a small gouge below the R in AMERICA. These markers, combined with the specific location and character of the tilted doubling, distinguish WDDR-012 from the eleven preceding entries in the catalog. As the terminal variety in the 1990-P doubled die reverse sequence, WDDR-012 marks the current boundary of documented reverse hubbing anomalies for this date, though future discoveries could extend the census further. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint on a copper-plated zinc planchet (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm diameter. A small die gouge (dot) can be found below the R in AMERICA.
