1990 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009
Error
Description
Cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-004, the 1990 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent WDDR-009 exhibits a spread to the west that produces extra Memorial columns or partial column images in the eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh bays. The westward displacement — where the secondary hub impression shifted laterally toward the left side of the die — creates an unusually wide zone of affected bays, spanning nearly half the Memorial facade from center to far right. When doubling affects four consecutive bays, the cumulative visual effect is striking: the entire right portion of the building appears to carry a faint architectural echo shifted from its intended position. Partial columns — where the secondary impression is strong enough to produce visible column lines but too weak to fully replicate the column's width and detail — are particularly diagnostic, as they create narrow vertical lines that stand apart from both the primary columns and the bay interiors. The Crawford cross-reference as CDDR-004 places this variety fourth in Billy G. Crawford's independent catalog of 1990-P doubled die reverses, confirming the die's documentation across multiple attribution systems. The breadth of affected bays makes this variety accessible to collectors examining coins under moderate magnification. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint on a copper-plated zinc planchet (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm diameter. Die Markers: Obverse: Two die gouges can be found north of the IB in LIBERTY. Reverse: A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 2nd A in AMERICA. A die gouge can be found midway between the bottom of the 2nd A in AMERICA and the F in FG.
