1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Atypical Die Clash ADC-1C-1988-03
Error
Description
ADC-1c-1988-03 is an atypical die clash on a 1988-P Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes, with six clash events. The dies were abraded and the obverse die seems to have been replaced, but enough evidence remains to document all six. On one side of the design there is one strong clash and one weaker one, both tilted; the slightly tilted RTY of LIBERTY comes from the strong one. On the other side are four more clashes, not tilted and so not linked to the first two, though two of them may come from die chatter, similar to machine doubling. MDC gives overlays of the approximate die positions for the weak and strong tilted clashes and for the events that left marks in bays 10 and 9 of the Memorial. George dePozgay found the coin.
