Description

ADC-1c-1987-02 is an atypical die clash on a 1987 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. Where the obverse and reverse fields struck each other, the die surface changed: those areas can look distinctly shiny, without die flow lines or other small flaws, almost as if slightly melted. The coin also shows a second surface change caused by die polish lines. Because of these changes, light reflects differently from the clashed areas than from the abrasion lines, so they show different values and hues as the light moves across the coin.
