1984 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009
ErrorDescription
Covering the broadest range of reverse design elements among the subtle 1984 WDDRs, Wexler's 1984 1-cent WDDR-009 presents slight spread towards center on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE CENT, and the designer's initials on the Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent. Despite the slight classification, doubling across all four major reverse inscription groups confirms the hub misalignment was oriented to produce displacement across a broad sweep of the die face. The obverse die is marked by a small gouge appearing as a dot below the 9 in the date. On the reverse, a small gouge appears above the R in PLURIBUS and another gouge sits below the left side of the first A in AMERICA, placing both markers within the legends that also display the doubling. No known cross references. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams at the Philadelphia Mint, which produced over 8.15 billion cents in 1984.
