1984 Atypical Die Clash ADC-1C-1984-06
Error
Description
ADC-1c-1984-06 is another 1984 Lincoln Memorial Cent clashed-dies example and bears close resemblance to ADC-1c-1984-01, but two key differences distinguish the two: a subtle difference in the degree of rotational displacement between the dies, and divergent marker characteristics. On ADC-1c-1984-01 a die crack runs from the upper left of the memorial through the T of UNITED and strikes the rim; ADC-1c-1984-06 lacks this crack but compensates with stronger clash legibility — the letters RTY are more clearly defined within the memorial bays on die 06 than on die 01. Both the obverse and reverse were abraded after the clash event, yet remnants of the clash marks remain visible on both sides, with RTY in the memorial bays representing the most prominent surviving evidence. On the obverse the clash geometry from the reverse design can be traced in the fields around Lincoln's portrait. Coin courtesy of Joe Koelling.
