1984 Atypical Die Clash ADC-5C-1984-02

Description

Remarkable for hosting three separate cud errors alongside a very strong die clash, this 1984-P Jefferson Nickel cataloged as ADC-5c-1984P-02 by MadDieClashes presents a dramatic convergence of die failures on a single coin. Two cuds appear on the obverse and one on the reverse, cross-referenced as CU-5c-1984P-03 and CU-5c-1984P-04 for the obverse rim breaks and CU-5c-1984P-05R for the reverse cud. Whether the die clash event caused the subsequent rim fractures remains an open question — the enormous force of dies striking each other without a planchet could weaken the die rim sufficiently to initiate cracks that later developed into full cuds under continued striking pressure. This specimen resides in the collection of Chuck Newman. The atypical die clash designation indicates characteristics beyond a standard die clash, where design element transfers appear in unexpected positions or display unusual features.
