1983 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Atypical Die Clash ADC-5C-1983-03

Description

ADC-5c-1983-03 is an atypical die clash on a 1983-P Jefferson nickel, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The clash is fairly strong and crisp, and the dies were not abraded. On the obverse, the base of Monticello shows with part of the M of MONTICELLO, and again with the final O of MONTICELLO. On the reverse, the field and Jefferson's forehead left marks that may point to a second clash, the only spot on the coin that suggests one. The underside of his chin and his collar left further marks; the gap between his queue and neck made the familiar "flames over Monticello"; and the field around the bow in his hair left another mark.
